Susan McMillan has been practicing veterinary medicine since 1997 when she graduated from University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine. She spent five years in a small animal practice in Fairbanks, Alaska. Her busy days were filled with surgery, medicine, dentals, ultrasounds, x-rays, lab work, lots of bush medicine (advice by phone to clients living in bush villages with no road access to veterinary care), and emergencies (kicked by moose and lots of porcupine quills).

Dr. McMillan volunteered many weekends throughout the long winters to vetting sled dog races, including the Yukon Quest, the Quest 250, the Junior Quest, the Copper Basin 300, the Gold Run 200 and the Two Rivers 200. She particularly enjoyed working with teens and rookie mushers at the back of the pack whose goal often was just to finish the race with a healthy, happy team of dogs.

After leaving Alaska in 2001, Dr. McMillan did relief work in Southern California for a year but managed to make her way to the civilized state of Vermont where she and her partner and practice manager Becky Roberts are now at home.

Relief work in the Burlington and St. Albans area led to the opening of Vet To Pet Mobile Veterinary Service in August, 2005. Once this mobile house calls practice was up and running it was time to open the Old North End Veterinary Clinic in November 2006.

Both practices are quite successful, offering a variety of services and currently supporting 1,250 clients and their pets.

In her off time, Susan enjoys bicycling, hiking, photography, and is currently training to run the Grand Canyon in September, 2008.

Becky Roberts, our practice manager, is a native of the midwest but spent most of her adult life in Phoenix, San Diego and Los Angeles. She is a jack of all trades and has been a small business owner several times over. Becky has designed women’s athletic clothing, performed interior and faux painting, organized large scale athletic/fund raising events, and studied feng shui. Currently, Becky runs both the mobile and Old North End services. She books appointments, sends reminders, fields calls, maintains financial records, and is the first and last person every client sees.

In her off time, Becky loves to cook, walk, hike, watch movies, harvest our share at the Intervale Community Farm, and is currently training to run the Grand Canyon
again.
