Eileen Cleland with Molly and Rufus |
Eileen Cleland has two dogs and a cat. For a year and a half, she has driven past the Old North End Veterinary Clinic on her way home to the New North End. It’s not that she was dissatisfied with her previous veterinarian but it was expensive and she never saw the same vet twice. An unexpected incident caused her to stop at the new clinic on North Champlain Street, and she met Dr. Susan McMillan, but what was more important, Dr McMillan met Rufus.
They hit it off because Dr. McMillan likes dogs and veterinary medicine.
She spent five years in a small animal practice in Fairbanks, Alaska. Her days were filled with surgery, medicine, dentals, ultrasounds, x-rays, lab work, lots of bush medicine (advice by phone to clients living in bush villages with no road

access to veterinary care), and emergencies (kicked by moose and lots of porcupine quills). While in Alaska, she volunteered many weekends throughout the long winters to vetting sled dog races, including the Yukon Quest, the Quest 250, the Junior Quest, the Copper Basin 300, the Gold Run 200 and the Two Rivers 200. Eileen was impressed with the time and personal attention she received and was thrilled to discover a new vet for her pets. Rufus agreed. Woof. |

Eileen with Moses |
What she didn’t expect was for Rufus to become a landmark patient. Eileen learned that she was the 1000th client to receive care from The Old North End Veterinary Clinic and Vet To Pet Mobile Veterinary Service. And so the celebration began! Treats all around! Eileen, Rufus, Molly, and Moses (Eileens other pets) received a bag full of gifts, courtesy of the Old North End Veterinary Clinic and Merial (makers of Frontline, Heartgard, and Imrab rabies vaccines).
And so it is, with fanfare and distinction, that we introduce you to Rufus, a BIG lovable, golden retriever and his loving owner, Eileen, client # 1000!
